Korean Guide
Case Study: A Korean Guide to Living and Studying in New Zealand
Client: Ministry of Education
Timeframe: May 2007 – October 2007
In 2006, Korean students were the second-largest group of international students in New Zealand. The Ministry of Education saw a need for a guide aimed at Korean international students to help them better prepare for life and study in New Zealand. The Ministry worked with Lift Education to develop the Guide to Living and Studying in New Zealand for Korean International Students and Parents/Guardians.
Using a Korean specialist, we held focus-group interviews with both tertiary Korean international students and Korean parents/guardians. We also consulted with a wide range of government organisations, education providers and Korean community groups.
Arriving to live in a new country that has a completely different culture and language can be a daunting experience for an international student. The guide covers everything from pre-trip planning advice to finding suitable accommodation, working out the public transport system, looking after your health, the teaching and learning environment and much more. It helps to ensure their studying experiences in New Zealand are positive and productive.
