One of our clients is the New Zealand Ministry of Education, for whom we develop the instructional series. This series includes School Journal, Junior Journal, and Connected. These are part of the Ministry’s ongoing resource programme for New Zealand schools.

Writing for the instructional series

Because the content for the instructional series is carefully planned and tightly linked to the New Zealand Curriculum, all texts are commissioned. Lift Education does not accept unsolicited manuscripts.

Each year, during April and October, published authors can apply to be considered as writers for the instructional series. (At present, we are not accepting applications or submissions from unpublished authors.)
If you wish to be considered, please submit your name and contact details to Lift Education, along with a brief description of your writing experience for children. Include an example of your work with your application. This can be in any genre (fiction, non-fiction, play, or poem). We will add your details to our database of writers and contact you if we have a suitable commission for you.
Please note, we do not return manuscripts and are unable to provide feedback on your work. Make sure you keep a copy of your work.

Illustrating for the instructional series

Each year, during April and October, illustrators can apply to be considered for the instructional series. We are unable to accept applications outside these times.

If you wish to be considered, please submit your name and contact details to Lift Education, along with a brief description of your illustrating experience and examples of your work. We are always keen to see examples of illustrations of children aged 5 to 12 years, as well as any examples of illustrations for younger audiences. We will add your details to our database of illustrators and contact you if we have a suitable commission for you.
