The Dog Box

Case Study: The Dog Box: A Resource Kit for Schools
Client: Department of Internal Affairs
Timeframe: June – August 2005

Origin Design, Lift Education, and Flightless were commissioned by the Department of Internal Affairs to develop a resource kit of educational resources for schools as part of the Department’s dog safety public education campaign.

The Dog Box

The result was a teaching and learning kit, which was issued to all New Zealand schools with Years 1–8 classes as part of the campaign. The kit is built around nine safety tips to help prevent unsafe situations from occurring. The Dog Box contains teachers' notes directly linked to the Ministry of Education’s curriculum statement for health and physical education, a video, information for parents, a sticker pack, a game/poster, and game counters/dice pack.

A key part of the development of these resources was a teacher reference group, convened by Lift Education, that worked with input and advice from Teachers’ Support Services and the Ministry of Education. Lift Education assisted with script writing for the video and the writing of the other resources.
