SunSmart Schools Accreditation Programme

Case Study: Evaluation of the SunSmart Schools Accreditation Programme

Schools are an important audience for the Cancer Society’s SunSmart message, so the Society were keen to look at ways they could further improve their SunSmart Schools Accreditation Programme and get more schools involved. The programme encourages schools to put into place sun protection policies and become accredited as a SunSmart School. The Cancer Society commissioned Lift Education to carry out an independent evaluation of the programme.

We used a qualitative methodology based on telephone interviews with key staff in schools. We looked at the factors that helped and hindered the implementation of the programme. From our findings, we were able to make a number of recommendations to the Cancer Society that would raise the profile of the programme and get more schools on board.
