Te Tiriti o Waitangi/The Treaty of Waitangi is the first reorua (bilingual) graphic novel about our founding treaty.

Written by Māori and Pākehā authors Ross Calman and Mark Derby, Te Tiriti o Waitangi/The Treaty of Waitangi takes a fresh and innovative look at our treaty. To reflect current scholarship, it has been reviewed by some of Aotearoa’s foremost Te Tiriti o Waitangi experts. The text in the te reo Māori version was developed by Māori Language Commission registered translator Piripi Walker. The illustrations are by Toby Morris – an award-winning New Zealand illustrator, graphic novel artist, cartoonist and writer, best known for his online non-fiction comics that explore social issues.

Te Tiriti o Waitangi/The Treaty of Waitangi also provides access to the Treaty in New Zealand Sign Language and thirty other languages thanks to the New Zealand Society of Translators and Interpreters who provided access to their translations of the Māori and English-language versions of the Treaty.

We are a country of many cultures and languages. This book reflects that.
